Mountain Laurel Sewing Company exists to provide the resources and skills our community members need to create fiber crafts that work for their lifestyles and budgets.

What Sets Us Apart

Student-Led Approach

Everything we do is built around understanding your needs and helping you succeed—because when you thrive, so do we. We want to see your creativity!

Community-First Mindset

We believe that being creative is a form of community and individual care, and that our neighbors deserve access to good stewardship, education, community, and skilled labor regardless of their income bracket. You are welcome here.

Quality Made to Last

We’re committed to doing our part to end fast fashion. We value sustainable practices that serve the future of our Earth - whether that means repairing a beloved garment, recycling vintage textiles into something new, or using nature-based materials to create a custom look.

Suzy Wurtz

Meet Suzy Dawn

Suzy Dawn, the face behind Mountain Laurel Sewing Company, has been sewing since she first snuck into her mom's sewing room at the age of 9. In 2012, and many broken needles later, she graduated from Penn Foster's Dressmaking and Design School. Since then, she has run a home sewing business, sold her custom designs to international customers, and worked for a local ultra-lightweight camping equipment factory. Suzy's decades of experience includes garment and outdoor equipment design and construction, pattern design, alterations, sewing lessons, and sewing machine workshops. Suzy lives in Ephrata, PA with her two teenagers and two cats. When she isn't sewing, she can be found enjoying the outdoors, gardening, playing music, and baking.
